Cities, counties, hospitals, schools, universities, joint agencies and special-purpose districts routinely call on Pope Flynn to help develop important governmental programs and respond to general governmental law questions. Our engagements with these governmental entities are flexible and take on many different forms. Several Pope Flynn attorneys serve as local or general counsel for numerous governmental entities of all types throughout South Carolina, while in other instances we continuously represent these clients with respect to specific types of matters, such as the negotiation of economic development incentive packages, public-private partnerships, utility contracts, and intergovernmental agreements. Pope Flynn also often serves in support of local or general counsel – assisting in complex and difficult matters or transactions when called upon.
Pope Flynn is structured to strongly encourage a collaborative and team-based approach to client representation and our attorneys eagerly work together to serve the needs of our clients. Individual attorneys serving as local counsel have the benefit of being able to freely rely upon the varied experience and depth of knowledge of the other attorneys in the firm in order to offer the client the best possible counsel. We find that we are able to be most effective when we are able to develop a deep knowledge of a client’s inner-workings and a close relationship with the client’s officials and staff.
